SHUSWAP FC FUNDRAISER:
LIGHT THE FIELD at BLACKBURN PARK
The Shuswap Youth Soccer Association (SYSA) is launching a community fundraising campaign to raise $130,000 for the purchase and installation of permanent lighting on the new multi-sport Blackburn Park Artificial Sports Field, the first of its kind in our community. This exciting new facility has generated strong enthusiasm from local sports organizations and user groups. Any additional funds raised will be used for additional park upgrades and equipment.
Lighting the field is the final step in unlocking its full potential. It will enable the field to be used for evening programming, extend the sports season to start earlier in the spring and run later into the fall/winter, and allow for expanded bookings by teams, clubs, and community groups.
While the community continues to work toward the long-term goal of building an indoor sports facility, this project provides a quick, impactful solution and marks a first step in expanding access to sport in our region.
This is a donation-only campaign, with no prize or element of chance.
$63,240/$130,000 (January 14, 2026)

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
What are the benefits of donating via e-transfer directly to SYSA?
Donations made by e-transfer to fundraising@shuswapsoccer.com go 100% to the Light the Field project since there are no processing fees. While these donations do not qualify for charitable tax receipts, they provide a simple and direct way to support the campaign
Why can’t SYSA issue charitable tax receipts itself?
SYSA is a registered non-profit organization. Only registered Canadian charities are authorized by the Canada Revenue Agency to issue charitable tax receipts, which is why we are working with BCASF.
Why do I need to donate through the BCASF website to get a tax receipt?
SYSA is a registered non-profit organization. Only registered Canadian charities are authorized by the Canada Revenue Agency to issue charitable tax receipts, which is why we are working with BCASF. Donations must be made directly to BCASF so the funds legally go to a registered charity first. BCASF then directs those funds to SYSA’s Light the Field project for the approved charitable purpose. Donations made outside of the BCASF platform, including e-transfers sent directly to SYSA, are not eligible for charitable tax receipts.
How does BCASF ensure my donation goes to the Light the Field project?
When you donate through BCASF, you will be able to select SYSA’s Light the Field campaign. BCASF is committed to applying your gift to this approved project, and SYSA will manage the fundraising process to ensure your contribution directly supports the installation of permanent lighting on our new multi-sport field.
How will I know if my donation qualifies for the Rotary Club’s matching funds?
All donations will automatically qualify for the matching campaign until the $50,000 threshold is reached. SYSA will announce publicly once the matching goal has been met. We encourage all donations, as our goal is to raise $130,000 to install the field lighting.
Is sponsorship or advertising allowed on the multi-sport field?
No. The field is located within a city-owned complex that restricts the ability to display sponsorship or advertising. This ensures the space remains welcoming and focused on community sport.
How can I follow updates on the project’s progress?
We will be sharing regular updates on SYSA’s social media channels and our website. You can also track our progress visually on the SYSA website, where an interactive field graphic will gradually “light up” as donations come in, showing how close we are to reaching our goal.
Who is responsible for completing the Light the Field project?
The Shuswap Youth Soccer Association is overseeing the project and working closely with local contractors and partners to install the permanent lighting on the new synthetic multi-sport field. The lights will be installed once the funding is in place. For detailed updates on the project team and partners involved, please visit our Blackburn Park Artificial Field Project Webpage.
What is the status of the Light the Field project?
We are actively fundraising to reach our $130,000 goal. Once funding is secured, installation of the lighting will begin promptly. The field itself is expected to be completed and ready for sports play by early fall 2025. To stay informed about progress milestones and timelines, please check the Fundraising Webpage Regularly.
How much will the Blackburn Park Artificial Field Project cost as a whole?
The current budget is $1,131,438.00
The City of Salmon Arm has contributed $700,000
Shuswap Youth Soccer Association has contributed $300,000
Shuswap Youth Soccer is leading this fundraiser for the remaining $130,000+
I donated, why can't I see my name on the Supporers List?
- Donations to BCASF: BCASF sends SYSA reports monthly, the supporters list will be updated when those reports are available.
- Donations directly to SYSA: will be within a 1-2 business days.
- Donor information will not be shared if the donor does not click the BCASF "Share my information with Shuswap FC so they can acknowledge my gift" checkbox, or send their personal or business information with their direct donation to SYSA.
